We are delighted that you have elected a rotation on the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism Service. Descriptions of your activities and responsibilities follow below.

Attending these conferences is an integral part of your rotation. They are important to introduce you to state-of-the-art concepts across the entire spectrum of endocrinology and metabolism.
Outpatient Clinics
Clinic sessions are held every morning Monday through Friday, beginning for trainees at 9:00 a.m. Each session has a characteristic subspecialty orientation based on the Attending's interests. Clinic sessions are held in the Outpatient Center, Floor 7 Suite A, or the Diabetes Center, Floor 2.
See the guidelines that apply to all clinics.
Learning Resources
Standard endocrinology and metabolism textbooks and journals are located in the Divisional Library, 1830 Building, Suite 330. If you need to take these out of the library, please notify Gerry Delph, the receptionist. The Division has a microcomputer in the library that is primarily dedicated to use by rotating students and residents. There are also computers in the Fellows Room, but the Fellows always have priority for use of these systems. All of these PCs provide access to the Welch library databases, the World-Wide Web, patient information databases, and Up-to-Date, a CD-Rom database with current reviews on all endocrine topics. The faculty or fellows can help you access these systems.
Division faculty members are willing to share their reprint files and textbooks with you. Asking a faculty member with a special interest in the area resources can save you a great deal of time in identifying the best articles.
Education Programs at the Diabetes Center
The Johns Hopkins Diabetes Center is located on the mezzanine level of the Outpatient Center. One of the central activities of the Diabetes Center is to provide Education Programs for people with diabetes and their families. This is a five-day program, generally offered every other week. As a resident or student on the Clinical Endocrinology Service, you may be asked to take part in one of the five-day programs during your month on service, or to visit patients with Dr. Saudek during his Thursday morning clinic. Your Clinical Service Attending and Fellow should know when you plan to take part in the Diabetes Center program. Taking part in a Diabetes Center program is not a full-time commitment, and will not remove you altogether from either the clinics or the rounding in Endocrinology.
