A New ED for a New Era at Hopkins

The new Emergency Department is located at the front of the hospital, adjacent to the main entrance.

The new heliport features two helipads so that multiple emergency cases can be handled at the same time.

The new heliport landing pad is located on the roof of the Sheikh Zayed Tower at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Maryland State Police are among the institutions that will use the new helipad to get emergency patients to Johns Hopkins Hopsital.

The new Emergency Department’s radiology suite features a spacious reading room.

The new Emergency Department’s front reception area is modern and comfortable.

The Emergency Department’s internal reception area offers patients’ family members a place to relax.

Work areas for doctors, nurses and other clinical staff are designed to provide quick access to patients and the latest medical technologies.

Emergency Department work stations feature quick access to a new pneumatic tube system for sending blood samples to the hospital’s Core Lab for testing.

The new Emergency Acute Care Unit (EACU) is fully integrated into the new Emergency Department.

The EACU features patient rooms equipped with the latest medical technologies, including one room with a bariatric lift.

Each patient room includes a PC so that physicians and other health care providers can quickly access a patient’s medical records.

Emergency work stations provide excellent view of patient rooms for monitoring and quick access.

New trauma rooms are equipped with the latest medical technologies, including mobile X-Ray equipment.

New trauma rooms were designed to provide ample space for trauma surgeons and emergency teams to work together.

The new trauma suite in the Emergency Department features four adult trauma rooms and two pediatric rooms, but the space was designed to be flexible depending on the need.

The new Emergency Department features an isolation room so healthcare workers can gown up and access patients safely.

The ambulance bay is fully covered and has a dedicated entrance to ensure patient privacy.

The psychiatric unit in the Emergency Department affords comfort and privacy for patients, as well as ample work room for care providers.

The new psychiatric unit’s work station provides staff with a view of all patient rooms.

The new Emergency Department opened on April 29 at 7 a.m. along with the Sheikh Zayed Tower and The Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children’s Center.

The Emergency Department, located at the very front of the new building, has been designed to enhance every aspect of the patient-centered care experience. The new clinical area features the latest technologies in health care to complement our world-class emergency physicians, nurses and other health care providers.

In addition a new covered ambulance bay area, accessed off Wolfe Street between E. Monument St. and Orleans St., also will open on April 29.
