Dr. Latimer is the Assistant Program Director of the emergency medicine residency program
and Instructor in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Following her emergency medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Latimer joined the
Hopkins faculty in 2009. As Assistant Program Director, she oversees resident conference,
advises the Chief Residents and ensures compliance with residency requirements in the
setting of the program’s transition from a three to four year training experience. Her areas of
special interest include resident education and scholarship development.
Dr. Latimer’s research interests center on vascular access. Central line safety checklists have
been proven to reduce the infectious, thrombotic and iatrogenic complications of vascular
access procedures. Dr. Latimer has been at the center of transitioning the emergency
department to utilizing the safety checklist for these high-risk procedures as well as instituting
of a formalized vascular access curriculum for emergency medicine residents.
Dr. Latimer is also Core Faculty member in the School of Medicine’s Colleges Advisory Program. There she acts a longitudinal advisor to medical students and instructor in the Clinical Foundations in Medicine course.
