Following fellowship at JHU, Dr. Holtzman became an Assistant Professor and subsequently Associate Medical Director at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
There he participated heavily as core faculty in establishing a new EM residency at UF’s main campus, developed a program of tactical medical support and served as the tactical medical director for city and county SWAT teams, and a member of the team responsible for planning and construction of a new $400M emergency center. He also served as a NASA physician for the STS program Manned Spaceflight Medical Support Team for Shuttle launches and recoveries and as Medical Director of the North Central Florida Trauma Agency.
In 2007, Dr. Holtzman completed basic recruit academy/advanced training and was sworn as an auxiliary State Trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol. He continues to serve in a sworn/armed but strictly volunteer role providing non-medical law enforcement functions including highway patrol, motorist assists, crash investigations, mass gathering crowd control, and making arrests alongside full time Troopers.
Dr. Holtzman’s academic interests include advanced airway management and medico-legal aspects of emergency care.
He returned to the Hopkins family to contribute operational TEMS experience and help further the mission and scope of the Department’s unique Division of Special Operations.
