Information and Conversation Sessions
The OWISM hosts Information and Conversation sessions four times each year. These sessions are informal and open to all SOM women faculty. Topics for these informal sessions have been solicited from faculty members, and have included: work life balance, advancement, feeling valued, childcare, and navigating the SOM system.
All of the sessions have a dedicated facilitator with expertise in the selected topic, and the informal nature of these sessions allows for great interaction between faculty members.
The Office of Women in Science and Medicine (OWISM) was created in 2008 to increase representation of women in leadership roles, on high level SOM committees and other departmental and institutional decision making bodies. The Leadership Program for Women Faculty (LPWF) will serve as a vehicle to achieve this mission, by providing female faculty at the Instructor, Assistant and Associate Professor level, important skills necessary for advancement at the JHUSOM.
The OWISM organized its first Leadership Program for Women Faculty in 2009 in collaboration with Talent Management and Organization Development (TMOD) and the Office of Faculty Development.
The goals of this program are to develop JHUSOM women leaders who can contribute to future initiatives throughout the school, and to retain emerging female leaders by providing a prestigious and challenging learning experience. The LPWF will hopefully result in new leadership opportunities and ultimately promotion for the SOM women faculty.
The OWISM has selected its fifth annual Leadership Program for Women Faculty (LPWF). The goal of the LPWF is to develop JHSOM women leaders who can contribute to future initiatives; and to provide a challenging learning experience which can lead to new opportunities. This group of participants has representation from the majority of the Departments in the School of Medicine.
The OWISM in collaboration with the Professional Development Office and the Office of Faculty Development established a new program in 2012 entitled Emerging Womens Leadership Program (EWLP). This new program was developed to begin to provide important and cohesive networking opportunities for our junior Assistant Professors and Instructors.Our hope is that early identification of women leaders will result in retention and promotion of our talented junior female faculty and will ultimately lead to an increase in women in leadership roles at the SOM. Women faculty members who anticipate promotion to full professor within 24 months can submit their CV's to OWISM for review by senior women faculty. If you feel that you are close to promotion and would like your CV reviewed submit to OWISM@jhmi.edu.

As a new outreach, the OWISM has teamed up with the Office of Faculty Development to establish CV workshops for all faculty who anticipate promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor. Workshops are planned twice yearly. Email firstname.lastname@example.org�for information on future dates and registration.
New Associate Professors Program
The OWISM will be inviting all newly promoted women Associate Professors to participate in an innovative program. This program will provide a networking luncheon giving female faculty the opportunity to meet. New Associate professors will receive guidance from senior women Associate Professors about how to stay on track in anticipation of continued success at the SOM. Newly promoted women Associate Professors will be identified and contacted about this event.
Work Life Intersection Series
The OWISM has teamed up with the Office of Work, Life and Engagement to develop a series of interactive sessions for women faculty to discuss issues and learn about available resources related to work/life intersection. These informal workshops will be facilitated by Meg Stoltzfus, LCPC, Lifespan Services Manager.
This program will provide an interactive forum for women faculty to discuss these complex issues with other faculty and receive important information about services which are available to them.

Bridging the Gap Program
The OWISM, in collaboration with the Professional Development Office, has launched a series called "Bridging the Gap" which has been developed for women Post Doctoral students (both in the basic sciences and clinical areas) and junior faculty. Our hope is that early networking oppotunities will result in retention of valuable women faculty long term.
The OWISM Is initiating a new and exciting speed mentoring program. The purpose of this program is to allow our more junior women faculty, (Mentees -Instructors and Assistants) the opportunity to meet more senior women faculty, (Mentors - Associate and Full Professors) in an interactive forum to discuss various issues and concerns related to their professional careers. There will be 4-5 one hour sessions each year. Each hourly session will have an overarching theme, and during these sessions, mentors will have the opportunity to interact with 4 distinct mentees. Mentors will meet with each of their assigned mentees for 10 minutes and address a specific question raised by the mentee in the content area of the session.
