DRTC Research Focus Areas

The Baltimore DRTC consists of 138 investigators performing diabetes and endocrinology biomedical research funded by federal and private organizations. Their research base is organized into eight focus groups.

Cell Biology & Immunology

Members of this focus group are interested in broad questions related to endocrine cell function.

Clinical Investigation

This group includes members interested in bench to bedside research.

Complications of Diabetes

This group’s members are interested in complications classically associated with diabetes (nephropathy, neuropathy, and retinopathy) and associated conditions.

Genetics

Members of this group represent a broad interest in the genetics and diabetes and endocrine conditions.

Gene Regulation

Basic mechanisms of gene regulation are studied by members of this focus group.

Obesity

Members of this focus group are addressing basic mechanisms of adipocyte function, mechanisms that contribute to the development of obesity as well as its metabolic consequences.

Receptors and Signaling

This focus group is interested in hormone signaling.  The members concentrate in one of two areas: cell membrane signaling and nuclear signaling.

Translation

Members within this focus group have a concentration on translation from the research setting to practice and public health policy.
