Keeping Pace at the Race Keeping Pace at the Race: On a hot September Saturday at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, 25 Johns Hopkins Medicine International employees from the Mt. Washington and East Baltimore campuses participated in a philanthropic team-building exercise. As part of Catholic Charities’ Dragon Boat Races 2008, the group was among approximately 800 people competing in various land and water races in celebration of an ancient dragon boat festival, as thousands looked on. Above, project analyst Michellene Kerr pounds the rhythm for the paddlers. By day’s end, of 22 sports division teams, the Hopkins team placed seventh, “fantastic for a first time,” says medical concierge Julie Lange. Cheering them on were children and families from the Villa Maria Landsdowne After-School Program for children with behavioral challenges, for whom the group raised $3,000.
