How do cookies promote good health? Just ask the Junior Girl Scout Troop of Ellicott City. They recently visited and toured the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine to donate money raised from cookie sales from the past two years. Proceeds will fund a cleft-repair surgery sponsored by the Smile Train, the organization that provides free cleft-related training for local doctors and medical professionals in developing countries and free cleft lip and palate repair surgery for millions of poor children. Ethylin Wang Jabs, center, Smile Train medical advisory board member and director of the Center for Craniofacial Development and Disorders at Hopkins, accepted the check on behalf of the organization. —Judy Minkove |
