Dribbling for the Health of It

Dee Jacobs, supervisor of the HR Service Center

Seeing is believing. These HR folk are bounding down the corridor on the fourth floor of Phipps, bouncing basketballs and dodging red cones. All this means it must be Friday—Fitness Friday.

On Fitness Fridays, employees wear sneakers, take stairs instead of elevators and pledge to walk more. Third Fridays feature specific sports that raise pulse rates and lower pounds.

“The benefits are great: lowering of stress, cholesterol level and risk for heart disease, while increasing physical fitness and morale,” says Patti Moninghoff, program manager for Wellnet, which conceived of Fitness Friday. Her goal is to expand Fitness Friday institution-wide.

Even if you missed the golf, bowling and basketball, sign up for soccer goal shooting on Friday, April 21, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Phipps. All are welcome.
