Danielle Poole and Keely Houk,
the Hopkins patients who created these masterpieces,
were two of the four top winners in a statewide children’s
art competition honoring health care providers. Ten-year-old
Danielle, who has a hip disease, chose orthopedic
surgeon Paul Sponseller, depicted at left, because
“he told my nurses the medicine I needed and
how much I needed to take my pain away.” Keely,
9, selected otolaryngologist David Tunkel, right,
because he spared her “a surgery” for
recurring earaches. The competition was sponsored
by the Maryland Hospital Association.
