Share the Spirit

Harriet Lane Primary Care Clinic is asking your help to sponsor a family for the holidays by donating food, clothing and toys. A family demographic sheet, including the children’s ages, clothing sizes and a wish list, will be available to all sponsors. Info: social worker Carrie Vick at 410-955-2679 or cvick@jhmi.edu.

Howard County Milestone

Mammography services at Howard County General Hospital’s Breast Center recently earned a federal seal of approval. Citing the Center’s high practice standards and competent staff, the American College of Radiology awarded the Center a three-year accreditation in mammography imaging services. “Patients can now rest assured that the mammography program follows mandates by the Food and Drug Administration,” says senior mammography technologist Kathy Fogler-Payer. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the center offered $50 mammograms.

Doctor Directory

Finding a doctor in or out of the house just got easier, thanks to a new Intranet Central Physician Directory called CPD Lookup. Available to all employees on the Hopkins domain, the database gives complete addresses and phone and fax numbers of community and Hopkins physicians—80,000 names at last count—and is updated regularly. CPD Lookup replaces the aging Web CPD and can be found at http://cpdlookup.jhmi.edu.

United We Stood

United Way posters may be down at some parts of Hopkins Medicine, but pledges are adding up. This year’s two-week campaign, chaired by Marty Abeloff and Patty Brown, got more personal than ever. Meet ‘n’ greet team captains walked the halls explaining how every contribution strengthens United Way’s community safety net. And voicemails from JH leaders and celebrities reinforced the effort. “We did our best to raise awareness this year, and we felt the good will. People seemed to appreciate the food and other rewards for turning in pledge cards on time,” says Chris White, assistant dean. It’s not too late to turn in pledge forms; you have till the end of the year. Howard County General Hospital’s campaign runs Nov. 1 through Nov. 12.
