For 115 years, the Christ statue under Hopkins Hospital’s famed dome has brought comfort and hope to countless patients, visitors and employees. Now, at last, you can have your own. Cost: $240. Type for Life

Register with the National Marrow Donor Program and save a life. The annual student-organized drive, now in its fifth year, requires filling out a short health questionnaire and donating about three tablespoons of blood to determine tissue type. That information is then entered anonymously into the NMDP’s database and searched daily by patients needing marrow transplants. Typing takes place: March 8, JHH Broadway Corridor; March 9, School of Nursing, Carpenter Room; March 10, School of Public Health, Anna Baetjer Room; March 11, Preclinical Teaching Building 113; March 12, JHH Broadway Corridor. Details: www.typeforlife.org.

Two New Clinics

An anticoagulation clinic set to open at the end of March at Howard County General Hospital will be the only one of its kind in Howard County. Pharmacists will monitor patients on the blood-thinner warfarin (Coumadin) and teach them about warning signs “so that they don’t wind up in the ED with bleeding complications,” says Masoomeh Kamesian, pharmacy clinical coordinator. The anticoagulation clinic will be open by appointment two mornings a week.

Wilmer’s newest satellite clinic opens March 4 in Columbia, Md. The clinic offers general and specialty eye care and has a full-service optical shop on its premises. The Wilmer Eye Institute at Columbia is located at 10700 Charter Drive. Appointments: 410-910-2330.
