Bio
Biography
Dr. Chad Gordon will develop and direct the Johns Hopkins
craniomaxillofacial transplantation program. During his residency at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Gordon was involved in the country's first face transplant and the world's first craniomaxillofacial transplant as a team surgeon and the project coordinator of the operation. He is co-editor for a textbook on face and hand transplantation titled transplantation of Composite Tissue Allografts and has published many articles on facial transplantation, addressing infectious, psychological, and ethical issues. He also helped to develop the first preliminary face transplant candidate assessment tool the FACES score which considers both the physical and psychological health of the patient.
For his work related to the nations first face transplant, the Cleveland Clinic presented Dr. Gordon the Bruce Hubbard Stewart Memorial Award for Humanistic Medicine. Dr. Gordon is a founding member of the American Society of Reconstructive Transplantation and is on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals, including the Annals of Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery and Journal of Craniofacial Surgery.
With advanced training in craniomaxillofacial surgery, Dr. Gordons main clinical interests include reconstructive surgery in the facial region, complex skull reconstruction, skin cancer, and facial cosmetic surgery.
