Biography
Dr. Everett is Section Chief Johns Hopkins Bayview Community and General Psychiatry, Baltimore, Maryland. She is on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Mental Health. She provides leadership and supervision to the 22 child and adult community mental health programs that are operated by the Community Psychiatry Program at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She is involved with ongoing operation of these programs as well as with the development and management of several new successful programs. Her current area of research is the health behavior of individuals with long-term mental illnesses. Prior to joining the Johns Hopkins staff, Dr. Everett served as the Senior Medical Advisor to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. There she worked on a number of projects that centered on the promotion of access to quality services and appropriate medications for individuals with mental disabilities. From 1999 to 2003 she served as the Inspector General to the Office of the Governor in the Department of Mental Health in Virginia. During this time she completed over 80 inspections of Institutions operated and licensed to provide mental health services in Virginia. Dr Everett was appointed to the US, HHS, National Advisory Council to the NIH, National Institute on Drug Abuse. She is active in several professional organizations including the American Psychiatric Association. In May 2012, she received a special commendation from the APA president for her work in healthcare reform in the systems on Healthcare Systems and Financing; She a past president of the Maryland Psychiatric Society and is President of the American Association of Community Psychiatrists. She has published widely. She has been engaged in a number of international projects which have included consultation with the Ministries of Health, Department of Mental Health in Iraq and Afghanistan on the implementation of mental health services in these countries.
