Biography
Irene C. Kuo, M.D., is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, and Medical Director of the Wilmer Eye Institute at White Marsh, MD. A corneal specialist and board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Kuo has clinical expertise in laser refractive surgery (e.g. femtosecond LASIK), corneal disease, corneal transplant and cataract surgery, and uveitis. She is certified to use newer lens implants, including multifocal and astigmatism-correcting lenses. She is one of America's Top Ophthalmologists and received a 2008 Patients' Choice Award.
In addition to being certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, she is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and a member of the Cornea Society, an honorary society to which admission is based on a thesis and publications. Her research activities include clinical outcomes of laser refractive surgery, wound healing after refractive surgery, and the evaluation and treatment of infectious keratitis. She is well-published in the peer-review literature and presents her work at the AAO, Assoc'n for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology,and Amer. Soc. of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meetings.
