Bio
Biography
Dr. Pomper received his undergraduate, graduate and medical degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Ph.D., chemistry Katzenellenbogen). Postgraduate medical training was at Johns Hopkins and included internship (Osler Medical Service), residencies (diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine) and fellowship (neuroradiology); board-certified in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. Since 1996 he''s been on the Radiology faculty at Johns Hopkins. He''s currently the Director of the Johns Hopkins Small Animal Imaging Resource Program and Associate Director of the In Vivo Cellular and Molecular Imaging Center, both funded by the National Cancer Institute to support molecular imaging research. His interests are in the development of new radiopharmaceuticals, optical probes and techniques for molecular imaging of cancer and central nervous system disease. His research group consists of chemists, physicists, molecular biologists and clinicians working together toward clinical molecular imaging. He is the immediate past President of the Society of Nuclear Medicines Molecular Imaging Center of Excellence and Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Molecular Imaging.

Research Summary
Molecular imaging research - from synthesis of new imaging agents to clinical translation. General areas include cancer, infection/inflammation and central nervous system disease. Examples of specific projects include imaging of prostate cancer through targeting the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), general cancer imaging through targeting of the CXCR4 chemokine receptor and use of the progression elevated gene 3 promoter (PEG-Prom). Molecular-genetic imaging. Targeted molecular radiotherapy of virus-associated tumors. Study of mechanisms underlying bioluminescence imaging signal. Chemical and radiochemical synthesis. Positron emission tomography of cancer, infection and neuropsychiatric disease.
