CPT Codes:
  83891 x 1
83894 x 1
83898 x 1
83912 x 1
Sensitivity:   Should be high.

This deletion occurs almost exclusively in the Asian Indian population, with frequencies ranging from 1 to 25% depending on geographic region of origin. This test does not detect other deletions in the beta globin region.

The 619 base pair deletion is included in the beta thalassemia gene sequence test.
