                                        Dr. Saudek
Director of the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Diabetes Center

"The main challenge in successfully managing diabetes is to find the key to each individual's self-care", says Dr. Saudek.  People with diabetes need to have the motivation and the knowledge to treat themselves hour by hour, day by day and year by year.  This is why diabetes education is so important."

Former president of American Diabetes Association, Director of Johns Hopkins Diabetes Center, and the Hugh P. McCormick Family Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Dr. Saudek is active in many areas of diabetes care and research.  As the Diabetes Center director, the programs have been developed with an eye toward helping people to help themselves.

Outside the center, as Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Saudek teaches about diabetes to students, residents and other health-care professionals at all levels.  He travels widely, lecturing about diabetes, its complications, and how to prevent them.

Dr. Saudek sees patients one day every week. He regards his clinical activities as the most important part of his professional life, and tries to bring the best of diabetes care to his patients.  With Dr. Saudek and the rest of the staff at the Diabetes Center, you get personal and group care at its best.
