                   Dr. Sherita Golden

Dr. Sherita Golden is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology.  She sees patients at the Diabetes Center once a week.  She developed an interest in diabetes at the beginning of her medical career, while attending the University Of Virginia School of Medicine.  Her interest in diabetes further developed during her residency and fellowship here at Johns Hopkins.  Since joining the faculty, she has developed a very active clinical and research career.

As part of our team of endocrinologists, Dr. Golden sees all types of diabetes patients.  As the endocrinologist in the Ciccarone Preventive Cardiology Center, she has a specific interest and expertise in the management of patients whose diabetes is complicated by cardiovascular disease.  She also has a special interest in Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes.

"It is important for endocrinologists to recognize the impact that stress and mental health issues have on patient self-management behaviors in diabetes", Dr. Golden says.  "These are issues that I aim to assist patients with as a component of their comprehensive diabetes care."

Dr. Golden is also an active researcher in the field of diabetes epidemiology.  She is particularly interested in investigating hormonal risk factors associated with the development of type 2 diabetes.  Her current research focuses on measuring the hormone response to depression and chronic stress to determine if these are risk factors for diabetes.
