Joyce M. Tobiasen, Ph.D.
Joyce
M. Tobiason, AD is a clinical consulting psychologist
in privite practice in Prairie Village, Kansas. She
is Clinical Proffesor of Surgery at the University of
Missouri Medical School. She received her Ph.D. From
the University of Virginia in Social Psychology in 1982.
Her Clinical internship was completed in 1990 at the
MidMissouri Psychology Internship consortium in Columbia,
Mo. A residency in Child Clinical Psychology was completed
at the University of Kansas Medical Child Development
Unit. Dr. Tobiasen joined the faculty of the Department
of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical School
in 1981. She subsequently served as Associate Professor
at the Southland Institute, University of Kansas Medical
School and was Consulting Psychologist to the Craniofacial
team until 1995.
Dr Tobiasen is a member of several professional and
honorary societies including the American Psychological
Association and the American Association of Anxiety
Disorders. She has served as Editor of Behavioral Sciences
of the Cleft Palete Craniofacial Journal. She has authored
more than 30 peer reviewed publications, chapters, and
reviews in the field of Craniofacial Psychology.
Dr. Tobiasen is clinically active in the area of Heafth
Psychology Her major research interests am, in the area
of psychological aspects of stigmatizing conditions
and, in particular, adjustment to those conditions.
