Hyunmi Hazel Oh

Hazel is a junior at Johns Hopkins University. She is currently majoring in biomedical engineering, concentrating in electrical engineering. She takes a flute lesson at Peabody and spends her Friday afternoons, volunteering at Keswick Multi-Care center. Hazel is interested in genetic engineering and pursuing a Ph.D.

Hazel is working with Dr. Jabs, characterizing and comparing the skull and limb phenotypes of mice models with two different mutations, a Fgfr2 Ser252trp mutation and Fgfr2 Pro253Arg mutation.

Arnab is working on a project to further characterize the candidate region on chromosome 6q22 in order to clone the gene responsible for Oculodentodigital Dysplasia. This will add to our understanding of the development of the oral region and will thus hopefully help to elucidate the mechanisms by which cleft lip and palate occur.

Meiling is a sophomore at Johns Hopkins University. She is currently a biology major and hopes to pursue a career in medicine in the future. Her academic achievements include being a part of the National Honors Society in high school as well as graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Meiling was also on the varsity swim team and water polo team and a violinist in the symphony orchestra.

Steven Pulimood

Steven, a sophomore at Columbia University, has received several academic awards, some of which include the Mazda Foundation Scholarship (allowing him to study in Japan) and the Thomas G. Hardie Prize (given to one member of the student body at the Gilman School allowing him to study in Oxford, England). He has also donated much of his time to volunteer service, is a part of the Columbia University crew team, and assisted in several research studies.
