Breast Health

The diagnosis of breast cancer can be a frightening experience and is particularly prevalent in our metropolitan area. The Suburban Hospital Breast Health Program works with patients facing this diagnosis by offering state-of-the-art screening, diagnostic and treatment services, education and wellness programs, and compassionate, multidisciplinary care.

The program treats more than 300 breast cancer patients annually, more than any other hospital in Montgomery County. Suburban Hospital is recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as a provider of high quality, comprehensive cancer care. Only one in four hospitals that treat cancer receives this special approval. With quality, coordinated care, compassion, and expertise, we set the standard for excellence in breast cancer care and treatment.

A team approach to breast cancer treatment

The hallmark of breast care and treatment is our integrative teamwork approach and our biweekly multidisciplinary conferences. Patients are empowered to be an active participant on their treatment team. Other team members may include: diagnostic radiologists, breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, pathologists, and oncology nurses and social workers.

Upon initial diagnosis of breast cancer, and possibly continuing throughout the treatment process, this team of specialists works collaboratively to determine optimum plans of care.

Comprehensive services, convenient location

Premier patient care is nearby. When treatment plans include surgery, radiation oncology, chemotherapy infusion, or in-patient care, the Breast Health program provides a broad scope of oncology services conveniently located in the Suburban Outpatient Medical Center and the main hospital facility.

Advanced Stroke Treatment

Johns Hopkins Community Physicians also provides specialty stroke care through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Center at Suburban Hospital.

The Suburban Hospital Stroke Program incorporates a rapid-response medical team available 24 hours a day that is highly trained in the newest, most effective diagnostic and treatment procedures. As soon as a stroke patient arrives at Suburban Hospital, this multi-disciplinary team promptly goes into action to confirm the diagnosis, identify the type of stroke, and quickly initiate an optimal treatment plan.

Since its inception in late 1999, the NIH Stroke Center at Suburban Hospital has been dedicated to researching the most effective ways to diagnose and treat stroke using new technologies and drugs. With physician-scientists from NIH working side-by-side with Suburban Hospital clinicians, the Suburban Hospital Stroke Program, under the direction of Dr. Jose Merino assures access to the most advanced medical protocols and cutting-edge technology.

This unique partnership has contributed to major advances in diagnosis and treatment for the more than 730,000 Americans who have strokes each year. The NIH Stroke Center at Suburban Hospital — the cornerstone of the Suburban Hospital Stroke Program — combines the world-class research capabilities of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), with more than 60 years of clinical excellence at a hospital known for providing great medicine in a community setting.
