On June 8-10, 2005, the Johns Hopkins Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine will hold it’s first-ever “Integration of Complementary and Alternative Medicine into Clinical Practice: Evidence-based Medicine” program under the direction of Adrian S. Dobs, M.D. MHS, Michael A. Carducci, M.D., and Carmelita G. Frondoza, Ph.D. This Continuing Medical Education course, which will award AMA Category One credits, will take place at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore, Maryland. This course is an intensive three day session covering a wide range of topics in Disease and Symptom Management. The conference will feature such speakers as Dianne Connelly, PhD, Chancellor of the Tai Sophia Institute; Joel S. Edman, D.Sc., Director of Integrative Nutrition at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospital; Lorraine A. Fitzpatrick, M.D., Director of Global Development for Amgen, Inc.; Mark A. Moyad, MD MPH, the Phil F. Jenkins Director of Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the Urology Center of the University of Michigan; David R. Patterson, Ph.D., Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington; Jay Udani, M.D., Medical Director of the Northridge Hospital Integrative Medicine Program and Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCLA; and Jane F. Kinsel, Ph.D., MBA, Director for Science Policy and Operations of The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. We are especially pleased to announce that Dr. Ben Carson will present the Keynote Address on Friday, June 10, 2005. A Special Program will take place after the program on Wednesday, as Johns Hopkins Medicine and The Johns Hopkins University honor Dr. Ronan Tynan, formerly one of the three internationally renowned Irish Tenors, with the University’s Presidential Medal. Dr. Tynan will speak on “Hitting the High Notes: Living Life to the Fullest” and he will also perform a few selections.
This CME Program is directed to an audience of oncologists, internists, primary care providers, orthopaedists, rheumatologists, and CAM practitioners as well as students interested in these fields. The event promises to be well-attended and highly regarded, attracting faculty, fellows, and house staff from both the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and Johns Hopkins Bayview Center, as well as other medical institutions in the surrounding region.
