The Complementary and Integrative Medicine Service Mission

The Complementary and Integrative Medicine Service (CIM) is dedicated to the creation of a nurturing, healing environment for patients, families and health care providers in order to promote the evolution of a healthy and balanced person. The Service is based on the following tenets:

  • Provision of complementary therapies in an integrative model that is patient centered, relationship focused, prevention- oriented and based upon the freedom of informed choice.
  • Integration of these complementary treatments into conventional protocols for cancer treatment.
  • Education of patients, their families, and the community about the safety and efficacy of complementary and alternative health systems
  • Education of faculty and staff about the evidence base for the therapies we provide, in order to enhance understanding of CIM therapies and their integration with conventional medicine.
  • Provision of an infrastructure to conduct research on the safety, efficacy, and mechanism of action of various CIM therapies.
  • Encouragement of  interdepartmental collaboration in order to integrate complementary services with conventional treatment throughout the Hopkins Health System.
  • Development of ways to serve all people in need.

A new Integrative Medical Practice is scheduled to open at Johns Hopkins Green Spring Station in the Fall of 2008.
