On May 16, 2006, Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich signed into law a bill to increase the new Maryland Trauma Physician Services Fund by imposing a $2 surcharge on the estimated 4.3 millions auto insurance policies from Maryland residents.  The funds from this surcharge will be used to reimburse trauma centers for the costs incurred to maintain physicians on-call and to treat under-insured and uninsured patients who require emergent medical care.  Effective July 1, 2006, the Johns Hopkins Burn Center will be considered eligible for this funding according to the General Assembly bill signing.  Burn Center director Stephen Milner and other faculty were invited to attend the signing of the Maryland Trauma Physician Services Fund Bill.
