Neal Dickert is currently enrolled in the MD/PhD program at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and is pursuing doctoral work in Bioethics and Health Policy at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. And, prior to coming to Hopkins, Neal completed a two-year pre-doctoral fellowship in the NIH Department of Clinical Bioethics. He recently defended his doctoral dissertation, a project focusing on understanding the meaning and demands of respect when doing research with participants who have diminished or absent capactiy for rational agency. The project focused particularly on conducting research in emergency settings when informed consent is not practicable. Neal is also interested in and has published work on offering incentives to participants in clinical research, the process of community consultation for research, consent requirements for cada veric organ procurement, and the conduct of research in the developing world. Neal graduates from both the doctoral program and medical school this year and will begin an internship in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in July.
