After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Microbiology from the University of Calabar in Nigeria, Julius Nwobegahay continued his studies at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, where he received a Masters in Medical Virology. After completing his graduate studies, Mr. Nwobegahay entered the Yaounde Combine d Military Academy (EMIA) in Yaounde, Cameroon, where he now serves as a Captain. Mr. Nwobegahay is currently the Chief of Infectious Disease Surveillance and Monitoring for the Department of Military Health in Cameroon. In this position, he is constantly faced with ethical issues during his research, including the difficulty of HIV testing in the military and the management of care for military personnel living with HIV/AIDS. Mr. Nwobegahay has attended several research training programs, including training in Human Subject Research at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Health. He has worked extensively in the field of HIV/AIDS research and has served for several years as the Head of the HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing Unit at the Military Health Research Center (CRESAR) in Yaounde, Cameroon. Mr. Nwobegahay hopes the skills and knowledge he will gain from the Program will help guide him in the dual formation of an appropriate HIV/AIDS testing strategy as well as an improved plan to fight the pandemic within the Cameroonian military. |
