Evaluation & Research Program
The Evaluation & Research Program, supported by the NINDS and
HDSA, was founded in 1980 to provide a variety of services to individuals
with HD. Patients are seen for diagnostic evaluations for Huntington's
disease and related disorders. Area neurologists or other physicians
may refer patients to our center. We also accept self-referred patients.
The evaluation clinic is currently every Tuesday from 1-4 p.m.
During the evaluation clinic, a detailed family and medical history
will be obtained, and a neurological psychiatric examination will
be conducted. Our extensive knowledge of families with HD in the
Mid-Atlantic area, will allow us to determine if the individual
comes from a new family, or link them to an existing HD pedigree.
If individuals are symptomatic genetic testing for HD and related
disorders can be done on a diagnostic basis. All these services
are provided free of charge, at present supported by are NIH research
grant. Social work evaluation is also provided as part of the visit.
Patients are required to have a primary care physician in the community
for non-Huntington's related medical care. Members of the interdisciplinary
team may see patients for consultation and follow-up as appropriate.
