Clinical Trials and Current Studies: Longitudinal
Core Study
The longitudinal core study was specifically designed to observe
people with neurodegenerative diseases, such as HD, from initial
contact until death. Participants receive yearly neurological and
psychological evaluations, and bi-annual MRI scans. The neurological
evaluations assess the amount of functional impairment an individual
has. The neurpopsychological evaluations determine the person's
current level of cognitive functioning. Finally, the MRI's are conducted
to look for structural differences that occur in the brain over
time, with and without HD.
Patients are followed in a longitudinal research program funding
by the NIH program project grant. Patients with HD are seen once
a year. Medical history is taken and neurological and detailed neuropsychological
are done. MRI scans for quantitative evaluation are done every two
years.
