An associate, Dr. Ahuja specializes in gastrointestinal cancers, including gastric, rectal and pancreatic cancers. She serves as the director of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program as well as co-director of the Sarcoma Program and Gastric Cancer multidisciplinary clinic. She has written several patient guidebooks on living with cancer.
Dr. Ahuja’s research is focused on discovering prognostic molecular markers in early detection and prognosis of cancers, identifying molecular profiles for recurrence of early-stage colorectal cancers, and identifying molecular markers in development of cancer in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Ahuja also runs an active cancer research laboratory focused on the development of biomarkers for early diagnosis as well as the development of cancer therapies.
She received her medical degree from Duke University, and completed her general surgery training at Johns Hopkins followed by a fellowship in surgical oncology at Johns Hopkins. She also pursued specialized training in colorectal cancer surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University, England. Dr. Ahuja has been a member of the surgical faculty at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions since 2003.
