Mary Capano RN, MSN CBPN-IC, is an Oncology Nurse Navigator in the Johns Hopkins Avon Breast Center. Mary works closely with newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and their families from their diagnostic testing through survivorship. Mary, a Certified Breast Patient Navigator, Imaging & Cancer, with the National Consortium of Breast of Breast Centers, offers clinical expertise, education, resources, advocacy and support to her patients. As a breast cancer survivor diagnosed in 1995, Mary understands firsthand the unique needs of the breast cancer patient and their family.
In addition, Mary works closely with the Multidisciplinary Breast Clinics (MDBC), acting as Coordinator of the Green Spring Station MDBC clinic, developing quality improvement projects, identifying and decreasing patient barriers to care, and facilitating timely scheduling of patients for surgery. Another important role that brings Mary even closer to her patients and the community is facilitating weekend breast cancer survivor retreats. On a national and international level, Mary responds to Ask an Expert questions on the Johns Hopkins Breast Center web site.
Mary has over three decades of nursing experience including 10 years as a breast cancer patient navigator. In 2006, she obtained her BSN, followed by her MSN in Leadership/Administration in 2009 from the College of Notre dame of Maryland.
