Accurate pathology results are of the utmost importance. Great care is given by our pathology faculty when reviewing a specimen of tissue to determine if there is breast cancer present. It is common for women to bring their pathology slides from another facility for a second opinion reading at the Johns Hopkins Breast Center. On occasion our pathologists discover abnormalities, including breast cancer, which were overlooked in the initial findings reported from an outside facility.
To create an effective treatment plan and provide you with the best opportunity for defeating breast cancer, it’s critical to know the type of breast cancer you have and its specific prognostic factors. The pathology staff has extensive experience in evaluating and accurately classifying breast tissue specimens so that the breast center team has the information they need to make the best medical decisions.
