Lecture Hall & Café
The entrance is on the east sidewalk of McElderry Oval, with a shaded outdoor café area along the south/west-facing entry façade. Inside, an open stair to the college commons stands opposite the security/reception desk. The café is centrally located but has its own corner with views to the lobby, McElderry, and the walk to Billings. The primary feature of the floor is the auditorium, which holds 340 but can be divided into two 170-seat lecture halls.
Colleges & Commons
The four colleges line the east and west side of the commons, which extends to the south wall overlooking the building entrance and the oval below. The Learning Studio and a medium-sized meeting/classroom complete the educational spaces on this floor, along with two small group rooms. The offices of College Support and Office of Medical Student Research are in close proximity to the four colleges.
Teaching Labs & Academic Computing
The five teaching labs are along the length of the eastern wing, with a medium-sized classroom at its south end. The Academic Computing Center flanks the west side of the open atrium with the Welch Library touchdown suite and supporting offices. Linking the two wings along the southern edge of the atrium is a band of small-group rooms with glazing on both interior and exterior walls to allow light and views into the atrium as well as out to the south. At night, the activity of the building will be visible and welcoming though the lens of these student study rooms. The Office of Medical Education anchors the northeast corner of this primary teaching floor.
Anatomy Labs & Reading Rooms
Anatomy labs are the primary feature of the eastern wing on this level, with a larger meeting/classroom at the southern end. The case study room sits across from the atrium to allow greater depth and better central focus; the quiet reading room is in the northwest corner of the floor with views of downtown Baltimore. Small-group study rooms link the two wings as they do on the third floor, and additional small-group study rooms edge the back of the open atrium on each level with views into the sky-lit atrium space.
