CLABSI Opportunity Estimator

To ensure success of the interventions to reduce central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), clinical staff and senior leaders within the ICU, hospital and/or health care system must be engaged in the effort. Armstrong Institute researchers have developed a tool that allows these stakeholders to understand the impact of these CLABSIs on their patients and organization, and also the potential benefits of reducing CLABSI rates.

The CLABSI Opportunity Estimator estimates yearly numbers of deaths, dollars and ICU days attributable to CLABSIs within an ICU, hospital or health care system. In addition, the Opportunity Estimator quantifies the potential impact of interventions by calculating the number of infections, deaths, dollars and ICU days that may be prevented if the infection rate could be reduced.
