BROADWAY RESEARCH BUILDING, WOODS WILMER, SPH CLEAN FACILITY, ROSS 3 and 5
WEB-BASED TRAINING REQUIRED FOR ANIMAL FACILITY ACCESS
PROCEDURE
- First fill out the facilities management 'card access system' form, available from Animal Resources in Ross 459 (5-3273). Please note: there is a separate form for the Broadway Research Building (BRB).
- You will note there is a requirement for all facilities that you view the 2 short powerpoint tutorials on hood basic training and the automatic watering system (you can download them from this website) prior to gaining access.
- You are also required to take the hands-on facility orientation and hood training offered by Animal Resources. To have access to BRB, you will need to take the BRB training even if you have taken it elsewhere in the institution. Training is currently being offered in the Broadway Research Building every Thursday, meeting by the ground floor fountain at 9.30 am. There is no need to pre-register, just turn up.
- You will need to sign that you have taken the required training on the facilities access form before submitting it. You will also be asked to fill out whether you require access to the Helicobacter-positive or Helicobacter-negative suites. If you have animals in both the Helicobacter-positive and Helicobacter-negative areas, you may have access to both suites.
- You MUST NOT enter the Helicobacter-negative suites after entering Helicobacter-positive areas (both inside BRB and in other buildings) on any one day. Failure to observe this traffic pattern may result in loss of access privileges.
- The suite designations are as follows: #17, #16 C,D,E and 18G = Helicobacter negative. #11 and #10, #18 and #19 = normal Helicobacter-positive animals, # 13 = neuropathology and # 12 = ICE. Room #16A ("HIGH-RISK RETURN")accommodates animals that must be used on the countertop for scientific or practical reasons, including animals used in the imaging and behavioral suites. 16G is the BSL2 room.
- Please note: when you order animals from the vendor via Animal Resources they will be Helicobacter-free. You need to indicate if you wish them to go to the Helicobacter-positive or Helicobacter-negative suites. Although we encourage you to build Helicobacter-negative colonies, if you only have animals in the positive areas, and you don't intend to build a negative colony or clean up your animals in the near future, your animals should be delivered to the positive suite with your other animals.
Once you have filled out the form completely, please submit it to Animal Resources in Ross 459. Animal Resources will check that all the required information is present before relaying it to Facilities Management. Note that although Animal Resources sends the form the same day, we do not have control over the activation process and there may be a delay of several days before your card works.
If you have questions or suggestions regarding the tutorials, please contact Animal Resources on 5-3273.
