RAR rodent facilities are maintained under barrier conditions to prevent introduction of rodent diseases.  All personnel having access to the rodent facilities must be familiar with operating procedures to ensure that integrity of the barrier is maintained. To obtain access to the facility,

  • Make sure personnel are included on the animal care and use protocol. If not, add them by submitting the ACUC change in personnel amendment request form to the ACUC.
  • Obtain the appropriate facility access request form. from RAR.
  • Complete the Required Training including review of the 2 short powerpoints below.
    • BRB Training is currently being offered in the Broadway Research Building every Thursday, meeting by the ground floor fountain at 9.30 am. There is no need to pre-register, just turn up.
    • Ross 3 and 5 hands-on training is given every Mon. and Wed. at 10am in Ross 334S (accessible through the service corridoor only). No need to pre-register.
    • Other buildings: no regular schedule, please contact RAR to schedule.
  • Transitions to Automatic Water Tutorial
  • Working with Animals in the Hood

Then submit the completed form to RAR at Ross 459.  RAR will submit the form to facilities management so that card key access can be activated.  RAR has no control over the speed with which facilities implements access requests - we have found that it can take several days.
