Research Animal Resources (RAR), directed by Dr. Robert Adams, Interim Associate Provost of Animal Research and Resources, reports directly to the JHU Office of the Provost. RAR has daily operational responsibility for the majority of the JHU animal facilities and has exclusive control of the animal ordering process. JHU maintains the expectation that all veterinary care for JHU research animals will be provided by RAR veterinarians or with RAR veterinary guidance to ensure quality and contemporary standards of care.
Clinical care is provided by four faculty veterinarians, three of which are Diplomates of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, and six veterinary fellows preparing for certification in this veterinary specialty. Surgical and technical support is provided by RAR large animal veterinary technicians and four rodent technical specialists. Daily husbandry procedures are provided by trained animal technicians led by Lindsay Barnes, Director of Laboratory Animal Management, and her supervisory staff.
