Rodent Anesthesia Machines Available in BRB
Research Animal Resources has 2 rodent gas anesthesia machines for use only in the Broadway Research Building procedure rooms. They are available free of charge by signing up for either morning or afternoon use. Please note however: a fee will be charged if the machine or key is not returned on time or if the machine is damaged due to misuse or neglect.
Users must be trained by RAR before they can sign out the machines.
To sign up for training: call RAR on 5-3273. Training will take 30 - 45 minutes and is currently available on request.
To sign up to use a machine: Once you have been trained, call RAR on 5-3273. Machines are available Monday through Friday mornings from 7.00 - 1.00p.m. and afternoons from 1.30p.m. - 6 a.m. the following day, except Fridays where the machines must be returned by 4 p.m. You will need to fill out the form (download from the bottom of this page) and visit the RAR office to submit the form and collect a key that will unlock the machine from outside the supervisor's office. You must also fill out a materials and supplies form (available in the office) to cover any charges that may accrue.
Anesthesia Machine Sign-up Form.
To return the machine. Lock the machine outside the supervisor's office and return the key to the lock box. If the machine and key are not returned on or before the end of the reserved period, a fee will be charged.
Isoflurane and oxygen. The machine will be charged with isoflurane and will have at least one full oxygen cylinder at the beginning of the reserved period.
Nosecone, breathing circuit and scavenging canister. To avoid cross-contamination you must purchase your own breathing circuits, etc. RAR will provide detailed information on purchasing ready-made circuits, or building your own, at the training session. RAR also has a limited number of inexpensive circuits available at cost on a first-come, first-served basis.
