Trained veterinary technicians are available on a fee-for-service basis to provide support for surgical survival or non-survival procedures, experimental surgical procedures and other manipulations of laboratory animals. The RAR surgical suites are designed to provide appropriate space for performing survival or non-survival surgical procedures in non-rodent species. Our large surgical suite can accommodate several observers, participants, and space for your equipment. Well maintained surgical equipment includes: inhalation anesthesia, pulse oximetry, ventilation, EKG, heating pads, and cautery units, to name a few.
The two suites are primarily used by Animal Resources for research and clinical surgical procedures but are available to all investigators of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution. They may also be used, however, without RAR technical assistance by scheduling an appointment.
