After completing residencies in pediatrics and anesthesiology, and fellowships in pediatric and cardiac anesthesia at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Heitmiller joined the faculty in 1985 teaching residents, fellows and students. Her administrative responsibilities and academic interests are in the area of quality, safety, risk management and credentialing. These interests are carried over at the national level as a member of the Quality and Safety Committee of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) and as one of the founding members of Wake Up Safe, a Patient Safety Organization.
