Development and implementation of medical center policies and procedures for creation of a latex-safe environment. Development and implementation of policies and procedures for institution-wide and specific procedural and patient care area management of patients requiring sedation. Survey of outcomes. Review of a decade of risk management experience in a major teaching and research hospital. Role of the physician in training. Review of self reported peer analysis of events of patient care in a major anesthesia department.Quality assurance and risk management data provide well defined outcome information and offer an insight into the validity of patient care processes. Surveys of experience in a large medical center provide a volume of data which assists in the assessment of these insights. Although the data is retrospective, the human factors which play so large a part in the events studied are relatively constant and thus the assessment is helpful to organizing future medical care.
