Dr. Edward J. Norris is clinical director of the Eugene and Mary B. Meyer Center for Advanced Transfusion Practices and Blood Research. He also is a member of its Clinical Advisory Board and Executive Committee. Dr. Norris additionally is a member of the medical staff of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. He is an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine Department and a section head of its Vascular Anesthesia program.

Dr. Norris serves on a number of task forces, committees and teams at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, including director of the Perioperative Blood Conservation and Hemodilution Service. His research interests include blood substitutes, effective strategies for blood conservation, and the impact of anesthetic technique on patient outcome. Dr. Norris has co-authored more than 23 articles and book chapters for medical publications.

Dr. Norris graduated summa cum laude from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania State School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and his residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. He received more than a dozen awards during his medical school years, most of them from national organizations. Following completion of a fellowship at Hopkins in vascular, thoracic, transplant and critical care medicine, Dr. Norris joined the staff of the Hopkins School of Medicine. As a member of the division of vascular, thoracic, transplant and critical care anesthesia, he has contributed significantly in the areas of patient care, physician education and clinical research. His 11 professional organization memberships include the Network for Advancement of Transfusion Alternatives, the National Association for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery and the International Society for Artificial Cells, Blood Substitutes and Immobilization Biotechnology.
