My clinical research focuses on outcome of critical illness in children, particularly the pediatric trauma victim. We attempt to identify predictors of improved outcome and then test the effects of modified treatment strategies. My laboratory research has investigated the relationships between diaphragm metabolism and diaphragm function in general and specifically the effects of prolonged ventilation on diaphragm function and metabolism.
