ORMIS Project Mission Statement

The primary goal of the Operating Room Management System (ORMIS) committee efforts is to steer the process of selection and implementation of a new information system for Johns Hopkins Medicine. This task will result in the deployment of a system that is to be implemented in the 87 operating rooms that comprise the General Operating Room area, Weinberg, Wilmer, Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, Cardiovascular Diagnostic Lab, Obstetrics, Greenspring, Remote Anesthesia, and GI/Endoscopy.

In addition, the application will be accessible to authorized users from remote and central scheduling offices both on and off campus, preoperative and postoperative areas, physician offices, nursing units, central supply departments, and family waiting areas. Data captured within this system will represent the history and movement of nearly 90,000 patients across the Hopkins surgical experience from the time of procedure scheduling; to the gathering of equipment and supplies for the case carts; to the perioperative experience; and ultimately to the final billing for services and supplies.

This system will become an integral tool in the workday of 250 surgeons, 160 anesthesiologists, 500 surgical nurses, central and remote schedulers, and materials management staff providing them with a means to collect vital information and to utilize decision support capabilities. Moreover, this system will not function in a vacuum. It is being designed to interface with admitting systems for the inpatient and outpatient sectors; the materials management system; and the various billing systems across the enterprise. Ultimately, the data collection capabilities will result in analysis and reporting functionality, which is mission critical for the enterprise.
