• It is necessary to continue to create and apply new knowledge in basic and clinical research programs that move forward the specialty of Anesthesiology and of medicine in general and that are in the mainstream of medical science.
• Continue and develop research programs that integrate well with areas of research excellence at JHU so as to foster collaboration and take advantage of critical mass.
• Further develop and promote clinical research programs that include focus on evidence-based medicine and translational research.
• Formalized fellowship program in clinical and health services investigation.
• The operating room is a research laboratory for outcomes and health services research and its process and management must be evaluated and measured through critical and innovative eyes.
• Anesthesiology departments are in a unique position for studying and improving resource utilization and improving quality and safety.
