Airway Workshops Slated For New Simulation Center

Elizabeth Martinez, MD and Faculty Member Eugenie Heitmiller participate in a difficult airway simulation on a mannequin.The new Simulation Center in the Outpatient Center building will be the site of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Airway workshops on Monday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. beginning May 19. The workshop format for residents will consist of a short didactic session followed by stations for difficult airway simulation, and mannequin practice of a variety of airway devices.

Developed by Dr. Lauren Berkow, Assistant Professor, Departments of Anesthesia, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery Director of Airway Services and Dr. Deborah Schwengel, the Acting Director of Residency Program, the Airway Workshop will feature a number of training stations. Each station in the workshop consists of mannequins allowing the practice of a variety of airway skills including fiberoptic intubation, LMA, Fast track LMA, video laryngoscopes (Bullard, glidescope, Mcgrath), Aintree catheter, retrograde intubation, and ENT laryngoscopes. There will also be simulation stations for both pediatric and adult difficult airway training.
