Welcome to the Johns Hopkins Anesthesiology
Medical Student Interest Group. The faculty and residents in
the Department of Anesthesiology encourage the activity of the
MSIG. The purpose of our group is to give medical students exposure
to Anesthesiology early in their medical education. It is also
to support and mentor students who are interested in a career
in Anesthesiology. We do not expect every student to become
an Anesthesiologist, but we would like to give students the
knowledge and resources to make an educated decision. Choosing
a specialty can be a stressful and anxiety-provoking progress.
We can help, and even better, we can make it fun and exciting.
Anesthesiology is a unique and important field with opportunities
in many different arenas. The majority of people entering
medical
school are not aware of the influence that the field of Anesthesiology
has had on medicine as we know it today. Anesthesiologists
do
more than "put people to sleep." We are perioperative
consultant physicians, pain doctors, intensivists, educators,
airway experts, pioneers in safety, leaders in research,
and
much more. The Interest Group has a number of opportunities
planned for students. In addition to social gatherings, we
offer
a one-on-one mentoring program with an attending faculty
member. We also extend the invitation to come to the OR on
a free afternoon
or morning. We will have an IV workshop and other skills
workshops. And always, we are willing to talk with any one
who has specific
questions about residency, interviewing, The Match, etc.
