Overview
The Division of Obstetric & Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain offers a comprehensive regional anesthesia fellowship that will prepare. While the Department of Anesthesiology comprises of over 100 faculty providing over 40,000 anesthetic annually in our 1,000+ bed hospital, our Division includes approximately 11 faculty and 2 fellows per academic year. Although our Division is widely recognized for its excellence in research, we are also recognized as dedicated educators with Division faculty being awarded over 40% (13 of 30) of all resident teaching awards since 2000. The regional anesthesia group both at the Hopkins downtown hospital and Bayview are proficient in a wide variety of upper and lower extremity blocks including catheter placement and use of ultrasound.
Fellows in this program are given a graduated increase in responsibilities that allows for learning new techniques under the supervision of our Division faculty and eventually supervising these techniques as a faculty member themselves. A wide range of experiences including the acute pain service, regional anesthesia at the Hopkins downtown hospital and the busy Bayview hospital and some exposure to other areas of anesthesia, including obstetrics, will be included during the one year fellowship. Academic time will be generous to ensure opportunities to work on research projects with our highly published group. Opportunities to give lectures and participate in workshops and meetings will also be included in the experience. Our regional anesthesia fellows have established successful careers in both academic and private practice anesthesiology.
Interested applicants would need to be licensed to practice medicine in the state of Maryland and credentialed by the hospital prior to starting work. All fellows will be credentialed as faculty, enabling a very generous compensation. If you are interested in a fun, educational, relatively low stress year working with in an outstanding collegial group, this fellowship may be the perfect match for you.
We look forward to your visit.
