Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Online Application

Q: So, What Happens Next?

After all your reading and questioning, if Hopkins seems to be the right place for you, your next step is to apply to the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) by visiting their web site at www.aamc.org. After you have submitted your AMCAS application and receive your AMCAS ID number, you may complete The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine on-line application.

In the admissions process, as with its course of study, Hopkins strives for flexibility in accommodating applicants with special educational or personal goals as they prepare for medical school.

  • Deferred Admission-lets students hold up their arrival at the School of Medicine for up to three years while they pursue such international study programs as Rhodes, Marshall, Rotary, Wilson and Fulbright scholarships, the Peace Corps or other service assignments, or do research.
  • The Hopkins' early-decision option is available to applicants interested in receiving and making an early commitment.

Requirements

All students attending the School of Medicine must have a bachelor's degree. For graduates of foreign universities, a year or more of course work at an approved U.S. university is generally required.

Undergraduate course backgrounds should include one year of college biology with lab; one year of college chemistry with lab; one year of organic chemistry with lab; one year of calculus or statistics; one year of college physics with lab; and 24 semester hours in the humanities, social sciences and behavioral sciences.

Hopkins also requires that applicants take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).

Transfer Applicants

Please contact the Admissions Office for information about the limited number of places available.

Interviews

After reviewing transcripts, test scores and letters of recommendation, the Admissions Committee invites selected applicants to participate in on-campus interviews. This will be as much your chance to get to know Hopkins as it is our chance to get to know you. Besides a formal interview, your visit will include a chance to tour the campus, see Baltimore and meet on a casual basis with current students, administrators and faculty members.

Acceptance

In what we refer to as a "rolling" admissions procedure, the first round of acceptance notices go out in the fall for entry to the following academic year's class. This process continues through the winter months and into the spring.
