In 2011 Ms. Pollak took on the new role of Johns Hopkins Medicine Chief of Staff, leading the JHM 3.0 initiative which created new JHM ‘Offices’ and ‘Divisions’ organized by function, not by legal entity, and a new committee structure with greater faculty involvement. In her role as Chief of Staff, Ms. Pollak chairs the JHM Operating Committee, the new JHM 3.0 forum for review of all major initiatives affecting Johns Hopkins Medicine today.
Ms. Pollak served as the V.P. and General Counsel for The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation and Johns Hopkins Medicine from 1994-2011. In 2011 Ms. Pollak was named Sr. Vice President and General Counsel for Johns Hopkins Medicine and continues in that role concurrently with her role as Chief of Staff.
Before coming to Johns Hopkins in 1994, Ms. Pollak was head of the Health Care Group at Piper & Marbury (now DLA Piper), a large, multiservice law firm with offices in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., New York City, and several foreign countries. While at Piper, Ms. Pollak represented many health care clients, including hospitals, nursing homes, physician groups and emerging alternative delivery systems, providing counsel on regulatory matters and corporate finance. Her work included practice before the major medical regulatory bodies in Maryland, including the Health Care Commission and the Health Services Cost Review Commission. She also served on many committees for the Maryland Hospital Association and the American Bar Association, in both health and tax-exempt finance areas.
Ms. Pollak served as a member and then chairman of the board of the Mid-Atlantic affiliate of the American Heart Association, and now serves on the board of Charlestown Community, the nation’s largest continuing care facility located in Catonsville, Md. Ms. Pollak earned her bachelor’s degree in English and education from Dickinson College, and her legal degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, where she currently serves on its Board of Advisors.
Ms. Pollak is the mother of five children and the wife of Mark Pollak, a real estate and finance attorney with Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll.
